OECD-CATA-PITAA Regional Training Seminar on “International Tax Evasion and Avoidance

The Tax Programme(Korea Tax Centre, KTC) held a joint local training seminar in Nandi, Fiji, from June 3rd to 7th, 2019, with CATA, ADB, and PITAA. It was to disseminate the latest international tax-related contents, including measures to prevent multinational enterprise tax avoidance, to major Pacific island countries such as Niue, Tonga, and Samoa.

The seminar was held for the second time since KTC signed the Letter of Intent with the Commonwealth Taxation Organization (CATA) in November 2016. It expanded its partnership to the countries and organizations such as PITAA, Australia, and New Zealand. The seminar focused on the OECD/G20 BEPS project and information exchange, which is being promoted to counter the problem of tax avoidance through international transactions, as tax evasion and tax avoidance by multinational enterprises and the resulting reduction in tax revenue have become a common concern for tax authorities around the world.

The seminar was led by experts Mr. Junseok Oh, Mr. Hakim Hamadi (OECD), Mr. Duncan Onduru (CATA), Mr. John Nash (New Zealand), Mr. Anu Anand (New Zealand), Ms. Rebecca Kernaghan (Australia), Ms. Anne Margaret Gormley (Ireland), Ms. Christine Fox), Mr. Chet Japson (ADB), Mr. Konie Ravono (PITAA), Mr. Petero Meivucevuce (PITAA). More than 40 participants in major Pacific island countries attended the workshop.
